Florida cash robbery: G4S security officers arrested, R3.2 million recovered

Three G4S security men have been arrested and approximately R3.2m and R5 rifle were recovered following a Florida robbery on Friday.

The suspects aged 25, 28 and 40-year-olds are expected to appear in Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court on Monday on charges of murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, stolen money, treason and undermining justice.

On Friday morning, CIT security guards were attacked along Ontdekkers Road after loading cash machines at ATMs in the area.

At that time, the police reported that a group of about 12 suspects, who opened fire on the G4S car with pistols and guns, were driving in four different cars. Black BMW, black Mercedes-Benz, white Ford Ranger և white Audi Q5

Hawkeye County Capt. Ndivuvo Mulamu said the group had allegedly pushed personnel out of the car, disarmed them with service guns and pistols.

Mulamu said they used the explosives inside the car cabinet to get cash.

They fled the scene with undisclosed funds.

The driver of the car, who was chasing when he saw the suspicious cars fleeing the scene, was shot and killed on the way to William Nicole, when the suspects allegedly opened fire.

Mulamu said a “multidisciplinary approach driven investigation” resulted in the recovery of about R3.2m in cash hidden in dustbins at premises close to where the cash van was blown up.

Police recovered an R5 rifle, Mulamu said.

“The security van crew were taken in for questioning and subsequently arrested. Outstanding suspects are sought. The investigation continues,” she said.
