Prophet Bushiri and wife bail hearing has been postponed and he has been accused to remain in custody pending the judgement on their bail application in Pretoria.

The prophet with his wife Mary and three others who are implicated in a multi-million fraud and money laundering case will hear their fate on Wednesday 4 November in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court. The accused are controversial Pastor Shepherd Bushiri, his wife Mary Bushiri, Willah and Zethu Mudolo and Landiwe Ntlokoane. While the Mudolo’s are allowed to be named, they are not allowed to be recorded or photographed.

On Friday, October 30, 2020, the spokesperson of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Lumka Mahanjana, revealed that the case will continue until Monday, November 2, as there are many documents in the magistrate to go through.

Mahanjana said the arguments for the bail application would be heard on Monday. After an hour-long dispute, the magistrate decided that the decision on the bail application would be made on Wednesday at 10 o’clock. At 00.

Mahanjana said the accused will remain in custody at the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre until Wednesday.

According to eNCA journalist Tshegohaco Moagi, Magistrate Thandi Theledi said she needs the whole of tomorrow [Tuesday] to consider the arguments and make her judgment.

As previously reported by The South African, the state wanted bail to be denied, arguing that the Bushiri’s were at flight risk, however, his lawyer Anneline Van Den Heever argued otherwise.

“I deny that any offence was ever committed by me. I have no reasons to run away. I have no reason to evade my trial as I need to vindicate myself,” Bushiri is quoted as saying in his affidavit. Bushiri has also already handed over his passport to the investigating officer.
