Matt Gunn’s death was announced by his beloved wife, Toby Langmann via her social media account
She posted – Matt Gunn, the love of my life, the perfect man, the kindest and most loving person that accepted all of me is no longer with us. He loved everyone he came in contact with and you felt it. You knew he cared about you and wanted to serve you, show you experiences that changed your life, and to tell the world that kindness always wins.
Please share a photo or memory of Matt to help us all heal. Please hold each other tightly, love each other unconditionally. We don’t know how deeply people are struggling. Please remember kindness and love, it’s what Matt would have wanted.
Matt went to Colorado College. After his graduation from Colorado college he proceded to Colorado State University where he studied Spanish. He is from St. George, Utah.
Cory Reese in a lengthy Facebook post shared the old good memories he had with Matt Gunn.
There’s a little less light in the world today without Matt Gunn. I owe much of who I am as a runner, and all the blessings that have come to my life through running, to Matt. I met him in 2011 when he was planning to start a race called the Zion 100.
I had only run one 100 miler, but he knew I was familiar with trails in the area, and asked if I’d help with planning. I hadn’t even met him yet when I agreed. We first met on a run, and I immediately noticed his kindness, and soft, quiet humility.
I could tell that everything he did, he did with passion. (I snapped what might be the only jumping picture Matt ever took.) Since then, thousands of runners have come to appreciate the stunning beauty of Zion, Bryce Canyon, Antelope Canyon, Capitol Reef, and Monument Valley as a result of the races he started.
In 2015, he sent me a message that said “You’re an inspiration to many to live life to the fullest, and I’m blessed to call you a friend.” I didn’t know how to say it back then, but this is exactly how I’ve always felt about him. I wish I could rewind time and tell him that. I’ll miss you buddy.
