Film director and producer, David Rodriguez have passed away

Film director and producer, David Rodriguez has been reported dead.

The filmmaker died on 30th October 2020 according to reports gathered recently, Rodriguez’s cause of death was not made known publicly as at the time of filing this report.

According to news shared on Twitter on 31st October by Jeremy says:

“I have heard that the film industry lost another good one: rest easy, David Rodriguez.
David was a producer and director on @AnimalKingdom and was as kind and friendly and grateful a filmmaker as I’ve ever encountered. He will be missed @DRodinLA”

 

Confirming the news also was actress Yvette Yates through her Twitter page, where she described David as a man who always wears the biggest smile.

“RIP @DRodinLA #DavidRodriguez he who would welcome u w the biggest smile&not to be outdone w food, music, dance. What an inspirational force he became, writer/director/showrunner, an advocate 4 Latino filmmakers, what a spectacular riseMovie camera still so much more but u did it to the fullest”

 

David Rodriguez was an acclaimed director and co-executive producer who added his vivid touch to many fan favourite series such as QUEEN OF THE SOUTH, OUTSIDERS, and SCANDAL.

In 2017-18, he rose to a new level of television as a director and co-executive producer of Showtime’s THE CHI, which showcases an authentic lens into the volatile Southside of Chicago. David’s background in law enforcement and upbringing on the tough streets of The South Bronx provide years of the first-hand experience in true human emotion and conflict, which is showcased in his filmmaking.

Before his death, David’s bold work as a director and co-executive producer will also be seen on TNT’s gritty crime drama, ANIMAL KINGDOM from John Wells.

David was an award-winning filmmaker David Rodriguez was born and raised in The Bronx and Long Island. Coming from a very small fraternity of “cops turned filmmakers,” David broke into the independent film scene in 2003 by producing, writing and directing his first feature film Push (a ContentFilm release), and soon after, Variety stated that, “Rodriguez is a filmmaker to watch.”

David followed this up by producing, writing and directing two more feature films, the acclaimed American Bully(available on DVD and HULU) starring Matt O’Leary, Marshall Allman, John Savage and Natasha Henstridge and, Once Upon a Time in Queens (a 2014 Lionsgate release), starring Paul Sorvino, Michael Rapaport, Renee Props and Chazz Palminteri.

In 2014, David made the feature to television transition and directed episodes of NCIS: Los Angeles, Stalker, Scandal (2015) and Game of Silence(2015). David is currently attached to direct the Gulfstream / Voltage big-budget action/thriller Down Range written by Mike McGrale.

David is a member of the DGA, is co-chair of the DGA’s Latino Steering Committee and serves on the Western Director’s Council. He now lives in Los Angeles.
