A lawyer, Gerrit Stander was shot dead during a robbery operation near White River, Mpumalanga on Monday

An attorney was reported dead following a shooting incident near White River, Mpumalanga on Monday morning.

He turned out to be Gerrit Stander, 38, who worked for Mbanbela Swanepoel & Partners.

The incident took place in the presence of his wife, according to police spokesman Colonel Donald Mdhuli. He said that the details of the incident remain outlined, as the woman was shocked, and the police should have received a statement that could shed light on what happened.

“Preliminary reports indicate that a man [father-in-law] received a message via WhatsApp that his daughter [the wife of the deceased] was breaking into the residence, where she was asked to call the police and medical staff as her husband had been shot.” said Mdhuli.

“As soon as he arrived at the scene, the man was taken to hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. The man, unfortunately, was later reported to have been taken to hospital.

“The police have opened a case of robbery and murder.” It also recorded that valuable items were stolen during the incident.

Mdhuli said the persecution had begun.

“Police are contacting members of the public for information about this incident by contacting Branch Commander Det Captain Mon Mabunda at 082 449 0334 or calling Crime Stop at 08600 10111. Alternatively, you can provide information in the MySAPS application. “which can be downloaded to any smartphone,” he said.

“All information will be treated as confidential; callers may choose to remain anonymous.”
