The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) on Monday urged drivers to be extra careful on the roads as the floodwaters hit parts of the city.

JMPD spokesman Wayne Minar said officers had been sent to several districts to try to maintain order as the heavy traffic was compounded by weather conditions.

“Due to the flooding of the left, two lanes are currently closed, M 1 and at night both were monitoring the drivers, so be careful. JMPD said I was,” he said.

“Klipsruitvalley Road is also flooded in Orlando West, in the city of Soweto, between Chris Hani Roddy and Morocca Nansfield Road.” “Drivers must cross Orlando West this afternoon to avoid flooding.”

SA Weather Service also advised drivers. Due to the yellow thunderstorm warning, the driving visibility decreased during the peak traffic in the state of Gauteng this Monday afternoon.

“Drive safely. “Keep a safe distance.”
