What does alert level 1 mean – These are the new Level 1 COVID alert rules in South Africa as normal activities within the country are expected to resume.
According to the Presidency and health stakeholders, all health and safety protocols for COVID-19 must be followed at all times, including observance of guidelines for social distancing, sanitation and hygiene, and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment, such as cloth face masks, as specified by National Ministry of Health.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation at 19:00 this evening regarding developments in South Africa’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The speech comes after a meeting with the President’s Coordinating Council on Tuesday.
The meeting, which Ramaphosa co-chaired with Vice President David Mabuza, saw ministers, prime ministers and members of the Association of Local Governments of South Africa discuss a report from the Coronavirus National Command Council on South Africa’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is widely expected to announce South Africa’s move to the first alert level of lockdown.
South Africa has been in lockdown since March 26 to limit the spread of the coronavirus. Under Alert Level 1, most normal activities will resume with continued safety precautions. People are still expected to monitor social distancing, wear their masks and be sterilized as advised by the Ministry of Health.
South Africans are expected to move to level 1 from Monday, 21 September 2020.
The social, religious and other gathering is permitted with the following conditions:
1, The Number of people in any venue must not exceed 50% of its normal capacity.
2, A maximum limit of 250 people applies to indoor gatherings
3, A maximum limit of 500 people applies to outdoor gatherings
4, A maximum of 100 people may gather at funerals. Night vigils are strictly prohibited.
5, Masks must be worn at all times and social distancing must be maintained
The following restrictions will remain in place to prevent the spread of the virus.
1, The number of people allowed in a retail store, restaurant, cinema or other public space remains limited to 50% of its normal capacity to prevent the spread.
