South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday 16th September 2020 in a media press briefing while addressing the public on developments in the country’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
He finishes off by saying “May God bless South Africa.”

“We must wear a mask when we are in public and it must cover the mouth and the nose.” The president urges.
He further states that people must socially distance, sanitize their hands.
“We can’t afford a second wave of infections… It’s up to all of us to take precautions.” Ramaphosa says.
Some of the lockdown level 1 regulation are as follows:
The social, religious and other gathering is permitted with the following conditions:
1, The Number of people in any venue must not exceed 50% of its normal capacity.
2, A maximum limit of 250 people applies to indoor gatherings
3, A maximum limit of 500 people applies to outdoor gatherings
4, A maximum of 100 people may gather at funerals. Night vigils are strictly prohibited.
5, Masks must be worn at all times and social distancing must be maintained
The following restrictions will remain in place to prevent the spread of the virus.
The number of people allowed in a retail store, restaurant, cinema or other public space remains limited to 50% of its normal capacity to prevent the spread.
He went further says that details of those investigations will be made available to the public soon.
” We are increasing support for gender-based violence survivors.”

Ramaphosa urges all businesses affected by COVID-19 to apply for funding or financial help.
According to him, The move to alert level 1 helps economic activity to return.
The president extended the curfew to 00:00 [midnight]. He also says alcohol can be sold until 19:00.
“We’ll gradually ease opening of borders from 1 October 2020.” Ramaphosa says.
Spectators are still not allowed at sporting events, the president states.
The president said the number of people attending funerals can increase to 100, He said gatherings can increase to 200 people. Mask wearing is still a must.
Level 1, here we come, but from Sunday midnight, He says after many consultations with various stakeholders Cabinet decided we are moving to level 1, The president says it’s time to move to our new normal.
He commended progresses made in terms of fighting COVID-19 in the country.
” I want to make a call to everyone who has a smart phone in South Africa to download the COVID app. The app will alert any user if they have been in contact with anyone who tested positive for COVID-19.”
