He was the son of former WBO Super-Flyweight Champion Jose ‘Gallo’ Quirino.
Few Things You Need To Know About Danny Gonzalez
Puerto Rican professional fighter Danny “El Gallo” Gonzalez (10-0-1 4KO’s) was born and raised in Queens, NY; the middle child to a younger and older brother, he had a normal upbringing but seemed to be lacking a sense of direction for his competitive nature.
Having been known as a tough kid growing up a pudgy Gonzalez first entered the original Universal Boxing Gym with the hopes of finding a way to lose weight and expend all of the excess energy he had. As most would begin their foray in boxing, Gonzalez faced an uphill battle learning techniques over time but his stubbornness and perseverance paid off as he turned amatuer only a year later to compete in over 70 amateur fights at 141lbs and 152lbs.
Facing some of the best amateurs in the NYC area the determined Gonzalez kept growing in the boxing world, earning the 152lb Metro Championships, NY Championships, Golden Gloves semi-finals placement, Empire State Silver Medal, and a spot at the National Quarter Finals.
His recognition as a gym rat turned Danny Gonzalez from just another teen looking for a hobby to carrying the torch at the 2010 Empire State Games and now as an undefeated professional boxer with hopes of one day being a world champion.
Realizing that not only was his style was suited more for the professional boxing game but that boxing was, in fact, his life; “El Gallo” decided to finally turn to the paid ranks.
In a battle of debutants, Gonzalez took on Anthony Smith on September 22nd 2012 in front of his family and friends as the inaugural fight at the newly erected Resorts World Casino in Jamaica, Queens, NY. Wanting to start his career off on the right track, Gonzalez put his punches together as he was cheered on, landing vicious body shots that forced the referee to wave off the fight in the 2nd round as his opponent was unable to continue. Next up to bat was a showdown with the tough Bernel Ayers (0-2) at 143lbs just walking distance from his home in Woodhaven, NY at the Cordon Bleu; this time Gonzalez used all the skills he had learned to this point-earning him an easy unanimous decision win.
Fighting for his first time out of state, El Gallo continued his winning ways as he pounded out another four-round decision over Bronx native Carlos Nieves at the Birchwood Manor in Whippany, NJ; it was punctuated by a non-stop body and head attack that had Nieves reeling for most of the fight. After having earned himself a win, Anthony Smith sought revenge on June 14th 2013 in Long Island City Queens but it would not be had as once again Gonzalez was able to break his opponent down literally breaking 3 of his ribs in an emphatic third-round TKO victory. On December 4th 2013 Gonzalez made quick work of Kamal Muhammad (0-2) beating him into submission as the referee had to step in to save him at 2:40 of the third round.
