Award-winning Sri Lanka Actor, Tennison Cooray Has Passed Away

Award-winning actor Tennison Cooray has passed away. Tennison was reported to have died today September 27, 2020, at the age of 68 at the National Hospital in Colombo due to sudden illness. His cause of death is not yet known to the public as at the time of filing this report.

He was a popular actor in Sri Lankan cinema and stage drama, one of Sri Lanka’s best-known comedians. Cooray was best known for comedy roles in films such as Re Daniel Dawal Migel franchise, Cheriyo franchise, Peralikarayo, Somy Boys and Wada Bari Tarzan franchise. In addition to acting, he has also worked as a director and scriptwriter, singer, lyrics writer.

Born on 30th April 1952 in Moratuwa, Tennison Cooray in 1984 joined with Dinesh Priyasad to write a script for a new film. Later he got a chance to act in Dinesh Priyasad’s Peralikarayo in 1986, his acting career commenced with a brief phase of comic characters in Sinhala films.

He studied at Methodist High School, Moratuwa. He only graduated in Ordinary Level examination.
