NLLC Head Coach, Sue Sofarnos Has Passed Away



Newport Ladies Lacrosse Club (NLLC) head coach, Sue Sofarmos has passed away. She was reported to have died today September 19 2020. Her cause of death was not made public.

Sue Sofarmos took over as the Senior Women’s head coach in 2019. Sue coached the Victorian Women’s Team to a National Championship in 201. She has won five national championships as the victorian head coach. This includes a run of 4 straight championships from 2013-17.

She has also been actively involved as a coach on the Australian team, most recently as Team Analyst, but also has been Head and Assistant coach along the way. At the club level, Sue is currently the Director of Coaching for Newport Ladies Lacrosse Club and an 8 – time premiership-winning coach for the Porters.

In 2016, she took over as Australian Lacrosse Association (ALA) Head Coach. That same year she resigned from the position as the ALA head coach.

Sue Sofarnos’s daughter, Hayley is Newport co-captain. She is married John Sofarmos.

Hayley Lauren Sofarnos born March 29, 1991, in Melbourne has played in all 17 games.
