#FreeAndileLungisa: South African on Friday 18 September 2020 demanded the immediate release of Andile Lungisa who was convicted of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm after smashing a glass water jug over the head of DA councillor Rano Kayser.

Their idea for his release was that Andile Lungisa was jailed even when he killed no one while the white South African Bees Roux murdered a black policeman in 2010 was freed.

In 2010 when Metro police officer Sergeant Ntshimane Johannes Mogale stopped Roux, found him drunk, he resisted arrest attacked policeman & beat him to death. He offered family of the murdered cop R750K blood money and the court let him walk a free man.

Below is a delegation of ANC members and supporters outside the prison in Paterson Road with words of support for Lungisa.

Lungisa also addressed the crowd, saying he was confident that the Constitutional Court would rule in his favour.

While speaking on Thursday Lungisa maintained that he had merely defended himself and that not even Kayser wanted him to be sent to jail.

He will apply for an extension of bail on Monday in the high court in Makhanda.

Below is an official statement released by Young Activists in South African Community demanding his release.

We believe Andile Lungisa’s arrest is UNFAIR and the punishment is harsh for an individual acting in self-defence.

It’s not in the interest of the Justice System to arrest him!! We, therefore, urge authorities and the relevant institutions to release him.

Cde Andile Lungisa will start his two-year sentence today (17th of September 2020) at the North End Correctional Services Centre in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape.

WE SHALL NOT REST
