Police are now investigating the aftermath of the murder of a 15-year-old girl in Norkfolk.
A suspect was arrested after a teenager was shot Tuesday afternoon.
According to police, a call about a shooting in 900 buildings came from Pollard Street in the Lindenwood community around 4:50 PM. The shooting took place in a stadium.
The death of a teenager was announced at the scene.
“We bury more young people than we are old these days,” said community activist Clayton Marquez.
Neighbors tell us that while this is a quiet area, they sometimes hear gunshots or fireworks at night.
While the police have not officially released the identity of the victim, they have confirmed to News 3 that it is a girl. The victim’s cousin told us she was only 15 years old.
She’s not bothering anyone. Derek James Kirksey, the victim’s older cousin, said, “She’s a beautiful person. Young Men – Where to Get Weapons? We are killing ourselves. ”
Kirksey said he does not understand how a place where children play can become a crime scene.
As forensic units searched for evidence, leaders of the Stop the Local Violence group were demanding immediate change.
Community activist Bilal Muhammad said, “Please change your way of thinking.”
Muhammad says that the girl who lost her life was more than just a child.
“We lost a leader, we lost the mother of the future, and we lost a teacher,” he said.
