Award-winning writer & Director, Aidan Fennessy Has Passed Away

Aidan Fennessy Death – Dead: Award-winning writer, director and dramaturg whose plays have been produced by Melbourne Theatre Company, Queensland Theatre Company, Griffin Theatre, HotHouse, Playbox, Black Swan State Theatre Company and many morey, Aidan Fennessy has passed away. Aidan Fennessy was reported to have died today September 13, 2020, at the age of 53. His cause of death has not been made public.

Aidan Fennessy death was announced by Black Swan Theatre Company in an official statement.

The announcement post reads below:-

Black Swan State Theatre Company are saddened to hear of the passing of writer and director Aidan Fennessy.

Aidan has had a long association with the company with commissioned works National Interest and House on the Lake.

More recently he collaborated with Clare Watson our Artistic Director on What Rhymes with Cars and Girls for Melbourne Theatre Company.

A man of huge talent and passion, Aidan will be missed here in the West.

The board and team of Black Swan State Theatre Company send our love and thoughts to his family and our colleagues Melbourne Theatre Company.

He will be dearly missed, and our hearts and thoughts are with Aidan’s family, friends and loved ones.

Aidan Fennessy is a talented Melbourne writer, actor and director

In 2018 he was given the Tasmanian Theatre Award for Best Direction. His directing credits include Peter Houghton’s A Commercial Farce for Malthouse Theatre; Alan Ayckbourn’s Things We Do For Love, David Mamet’s Boston Marriage, Lally Katz’s Return To Earth, Annie Baker’s Circle Mirror Transformation, John Guare’s His Girl Friday plus many more for the Melbourne Theatre Company; Ross Mueller’s The Glory for HotHouse Theatre, Matt Cameron’s Ruby Moon for Playbox/Neonheart, David Mamet’s Oleanna for HotHouse Theatre, and his own play Chilling and Killing My Annabel Lee for Playbox/Chameleon.

He was a co-founder of the highly successful Chameleon Theatre, a member of the Artistic Directorate of Hothouse Theatre, Artistic Director of the Store Room Theatre Workshop and Associate Director at Melbourne Theatre Company.
