Northumbria Police has launched a murder investigation following a fatal stabbing 28-year-old man in Chevington

Northumbria Police on Saturday Morning revealed that they have launched a muder investigation after an 28-year-old man was stabbed in Chevington.

In their words: “We have launched a murder investigation after a man was fatally stabbed in Gateshead.”

At about 8pm on Friday we received a report that a man had suffered injuries consistent with a stabbing in the Leam Lane Estate.
The 28-year-old man was found unconscious on Chevington and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

He was taken to hospital by paramedics but sadly he died later that evening despite the efforts of medical staff.

Officers have been carrying out an investigation throughout the night and three people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Specialist officers are supporting the victim’s next of kin at this difficult time.

Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Graeme Dodds has said a cordon will remain in place throughout the day.

He said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family of the man who has lost his life as a result of this suspected assault.
“We are treating this as a murder and believe the incident has taken place inside a nearby address following a dispute between people who are known to one another.

“The victim is then thought to have walked into the street where he has collapsed.

“Three people, who are all known to the victim, are currently in police custody and are being questioned in relation to the incident.
“A cordon will remain in place today to allow us to carry out forensic enquiries in the area.

“We do not believe there is any wider risk to the public but officers are on patrol to carry out enquiries and offer reassurance to any concerned residents.

“The victim’s family are obviously devastated and we would ask that the public respect their privacy at this difficult time.”

Anyone who has information about the suspected assault is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 1097 11/09/20.
