Australian composer, pianist, Sonny Chua Has Passed Away

Sonny Chua Death – Dead: Australian composer, pianist and music educator, Sonny Chua has sadly passed away. Sonny Chua who was a music teacher at Melbourne High School was reported to have died two days ago. He was the last Director of Music at Mac. Robertson Girls’ High School and currently Coordinator of Keyboard Studies at Carey Baptist Grammar School, in Melbourne. His cause of death was said to be a stroke. Sonny Chua wrote so many bright, fun pieces. He died at the age of 52.

Sonny Chua’s death was announced by Aus Music Centre via their official social media handle. Sending their condolences to the family of Sonny they wrote – It is our sad duty to confirm that pianist, composer & music educator Sonny Chua died two days ago, following a stroke, at the age of only 52. Our heart goes out to his nearest, and all those people, many of them quite young, into whose lives Sonny’s music brought so much joy.

Few Things You Need To Know About Sonny Chua

Sonny Chua is a popular pianist and music educator.

He was born on 2 November 1967 in Penang, Malaysia. to Richard and Jenny Chua. The eldest of four children, he also lived in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Malacca, before the family immigrated to Melbourne, Australia.

Chua started piano lessons in Malacca at age 8 and continued his piano studies in Melbourne with Julie Zelman, who encouraged him to explore a range of modern music styles.

It was at this point, that his creative journey began. He attended the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS), studying piano under Stephen McIntyre. He completed a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Melbourne, Conservatorium of Music, specialising piano performance, with Ronald Farren-Price AO, Alexander Semestky and Max Cooke; and also studied composition with Peter Tahourdin, Barry Cunningham and Brenton Broadstock.

He got married to his beautiful wife, Melinda Ceresoli in 2019 and they had two daughters.
