Actor Chris Hemsworth debunks retirement news, says he is still active with marvel studio

Chris Hemsworth is not going to hang the hammer after Thor: Love and Thunder, saying he hasn’t finished with the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet. Hemsworth created the role in 2011 with Thor’s first film and went on to play the God of Thunder in two independent sequences, as well as in all four Avengers films.

He will repeat the role once again for Thor: Love and Thunder, which will be directed by Taika Waititi, the only director to take on two films from the Thor franchise.

The fourth film will also bring back Jane Foster by Natalie Portman, with Waititi confirming that she will take on the mantle of Thor, just like she does in the comics. In addition to Portman wielding Mjolnir in Thor: Love and Thunder, Waititi also called the film “very romantic”. After many delays, Thor: Love and Thunder is reportedly ready to start filming, with Portman arriving in Australia to start filming as soon as his mandatory quarantine is over.

The film uses virtual settings, pioneered The Mandalorian and will feature Christian Bale as a villain who has yet to be named.

In an interview with Polish magazine Elle Man, Hemsworth confirmed that he wants to continue with a role that goes beyond Thor: Love and Thunder. Joking that Thor is too young to retire at 1,500, Hemsworth added that he hopes he will not say goodbye to MCU after this film. Hemsworth answered the question and asked if he had hung the hammer, as in the comics this is taken over by Foster. The full answer, translated from Polish into English, can be read below:

“Are you crazy ?! I’m not going into retirement. Thor is far too young for that. He’s only 1500 years old! This is definitely not the film where I say goodbye to this brand. At least I hope so.”

Of course, there is still debate about whether the fat Thor will appear in the film and just when the fourth film will take place on the MCU timeline. Given that most of the original Avengers stars retired from the MCU after Avengers: Endgame, there’s a chance Thor: Love and Thunder will show what happens right after these events. However, there is also a chance that the film will bounce, ignore fat Thor, and return him to his normal state.
