A Tribute From Ultra Runner South Australia
No doubt many of you have heard of the sudden passing of one of our favourite humans, Jo Kruk.
Jo was as tenacious and fierce as she was loving and humble. And without a doubt she was one of the most loved people in our running community.
I first met Jo when she took part in the 2011 Adelaide 6 Hour setting a then-female course record of 69.223km, which wasn’t bettered until 2016. Not a bad distance for a 24 year old!
At the time she was also in training for the Namib Desert Ultra in 2012. But it was only later that I discovered she had already been a champion in martial arts and boxing. She was on her way to qualifying for the Australian Olympic team when she had an accident which meant she couldn’t properly train for boxing.
So she took up running. And as the saying goes, the rest is history.
Jo was a dedicated and ferocious trainer. She’d regale us with stories of training for the desert event by running in a jumper in the middle of the day during summer. Or how her dreams would intuitively guide her to taking part in one run or another (regardless of where in the world it was).
But at the heart of Jo was a journeyperson. Someone who ran for the joy, for the adventure, for the appreciation, to view herself in the context of our world. And she just happened to be an amazing talent to boot.
She often described finishing an event as a cleansing. I’ll never forget her face as she crossed the finish line of the Heysen 105 the year that she won. One got the impression that she had just woken from an eleven hour reverie. Her face was full of wonder, not a hint of pain or tiredness. It was something to behold. But that was Jo, another day doing what she loved with people who loved her.
Jo will be sorely missed. How lucky we have been to have had Jo in our lives, even if was for just a brief moment in time.
I extend our deepest condolences to the Kruk family, especially her mum Bozena and sister Natalia who were so often part of Jo’s adventures.
I’ll post funeral details here when they become available.
RIP Joanna Kruk”

Tributes From United ITF Taekwon-Do Australia
It is with a heavy heart that we learn of the tragic recent passing of Joanna Kruk, who dominated Taekwon-Do for the first decade of the 21st Century, and was United ITF’s first World Champion in 2002, going on the win again in 2004 and 2007.
Our sincere and heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to our inaugural Vice-President and National Coach, Master Zibby Kruk and family.
Joanna set a very high standard in all that she did, and rarely missed the mark, with the humility and grace of a true champion. Rest in Peace, Joanna
