Hawks Arrests Two Suspects With Semi Cooked Abalone Worth R3 Million In Cape Town

Hawks on Wednesday arrested two suspects aged 49 and 38 at Westhoves Street Edgemead in Cape Town on for contravening the Marine Living Resources Act.

Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team together with Crime Intelligence as well as officials from the Department of Forestry Fisheries and Environmental Affairs (DFFE) in Cape Town conducted a search and seizure at Westhoves Street Edgemead and uncovered shucked and semi cooked abalone as well as dried abalone. The processed abalone is estimated to be around R3 million.

The team conducted a search and seizure at the premises and uncovered shucked, semi cooked and dried abalone.

They are expected to appear at Goodwood Magistrates Court on Thursday to face a charge of operating an illegal abalone processing facility.
