Senator Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. missed the Senate session yesterday after he was rushed to an undisclosed hospital due to pneumonia.
This morning the sad news of his death has waken the entire country and has thrown many of the senators family members and frinds to shock.
According to his wife who shared the sad news said “My husband, my partner, my best friend left us today at 11: 41 due to pneumonia caused by the recurrence of covid-19 Bong Revilla”
“Nag-develop po ang pneomonia nya’” a source told BusinessMirror, adding Revilla Jr. was placed in isolation for observation Tuesday afternoon.
The source, who asked not to be named, said the ailing Senator went on self-imposed isolation for “almost a week now” in his Cavite residence.
Senate President Vicente Sotto III, in a text message, confirmed he was informed that Sen. Revilla Jr. was brought to the hospital from his Cavite residence.
The 53-year-old former actor, who was placed on isolating in his home broke the “sad news” on his social media last night. He assured his supporters that he’s fine and other members of his family have been cleared of the virus.
“Don’t worry, I am okay. [My wife] Lani [Mercado], and the kids are okay…they’ve all tested negative,” Revilla said, adding that the entire family got tested after an unnamed member of their household and a member of his Senate staff both tested positive for the disease.
“I was last in the Senate on Monday before all of this, and was last out on Tuesday on my Daddy’s 40th day,” he wrote, referring to attending a memorial service held to mark the 40th day since his father, Ramon Revilla Sr. died.
This morning he posted a short video from his bed, where he complained about experiencing body chills, muscle pain, and headaches. But Revilla said that he will continue to fight the disease, because “it’s just COVID.”
The senator said that he will continue to quarantine as advised by his doctor.
Revilla was first elected to the senate in 2004, succedding hsifather . He successfully ran for a second term and topped the senatorial race in 2010.
An actor, he started in a number of actionsfilms during the 1980s and 1990s.
Revilla’s career was put onto haitus. But after five years of detainment, he returned to acting under GMA Network.
