Senior CPM leader Shyamal Chakraborty Is Dead

Senior CPM leader Shyamal Chakraborty passes away. He had tested positive for Covid-19 few days back and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kolkat.

 

Shyamal Chakraborty was admitted to a private nursing home here with severe breathing trouble and other old age ailments causing concern among his family, party comrades and large followers about his health.

According to his daughter Ushashi Chakraborty, her octogenarian father who has been suffering from breathing problem after developing some infection in his lungs, was admitted to a nursing home near his North Kolkata residence yesterday.

“Though we not know whether he is suffering from Covid-19 since the report of his test is yet to come,” Ushashi said and informed that he had been kept in total isolation in a separate cabin in the nursing home and was under round the clock observation and treatment of doctors.

A former transport minister in the cabinet of the then Chief Minister Jyoti Basu for several years during the 34 years Left Front rule in Bengal, Chakraborty was also a leading trade union figure and the state secretary of CITU, the labour organisation of CPI-M for long. But because of his old age he was no very active in the party of late.

After coming know his admission to nursing home, large number of people including many party workers and admirers wished for his speedy recovery in the social media platforms.
