The news of his death was confirmed by his family members through an official twitter post

Mr Ntunja died of complications from a heart failure on 4th of July 2020, his family disclosed that today.

In an official statement released by his family members states:

This serves to confirm that our beloved father uTat’ uMbulelo Ntunja has passed away this morning of July 4th 2020 of heart failure eGcuwa in the Eastern Cape. He was very present and loving father and took care of us even from a distance (we as his children ade based all over the country), until his last day. We have been blessed to have known the love of an engaged , caring father and for those of you who believe that a traditional Xhosa father means an aloof creature, let me dispel that notion altogether. uTata was the exception to this supposed ‘rule’ and we have learnt so much from him which we will carry with us through the rest of our lives.

We buried him in a dignified ceremony eThanga, eGcuwa on Thursday the 16th July 2020, That was monitored by Msobomvu SAPS under the Nationl Lockdown protocols: we started at 07:00 am, completed by 9;00 and concluded the accompanying meal by 10:00 am.
