Tributes Floods Social Media
Steph Segars in a lengthy post of Facebook penned down her tribute to Pastor Powell.
I can not fully articulate how much I learned from John and Katherine about marriage, parenting, serving and loving others well. The impact they had on my life the time I lived in Louisville was deep and influences so much of the way I parent and minister to others today.
Grieved to hear about his passing and praying over Katherine and their kids. Truly a man who strived to glorify God in all things and invested deeply in those around him.
I still remember this sermon. Kyle and I happened to be visiting Louisville and John was in town preaching at Carlisle. I’m so blessed that Kyle was able to meet John and I was able to share with him the impact he and Katherine had on my life.
John Powell was married to his bride, Katherine, and was the father of four children—Gunner, Bennett, Ada Kate, and Reese. He was a devoted husband and an incredible father. He was pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church in the Houston area.
“Do you not know that a prince and a great man has fallen this day in Israel?”
All who knew John Powell are reeling from his tragic death. Please pray for all who mourn his loss, especially his dear wife Katherine & their four beautiful children.

I had the pleasure of keeping up with John Powell on a Monday morning prayer text.
This was our last exchange.
He loved his family immensely!
To see many others share their stories of John and his impact on their lives is humbling.
