What Was Their Crimes
Daniel Lewis Lee, a member of a group of white supremacists, was convicted in Arkansas in 1999 for murdering William Mueller, an arms dealer, his wife, Nancy, and their eight-year-old daughter, Sarah Powell. After stealing and shooting victims with an electric pistol, Lee covered their heads with plastic bags, sealed the bags with duct tape, and threw the family into an Illinois swamp. On May 4, 1999, a jury in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas found Lee guilty of numerous crimes, including three counts of murder in aid of organized crime, and he was sentenced to death. Lee’s execution was scheduled for Monday at Terre Haute Prison, in the state of Indiana(center), but was postponed after the court order prior to the Supreme Court decision.
Lee , originally from Yukon, Oklahoma, would be the first federal prisoner executed in the United States since 2003. Earlene Peterson , whose daughter and granddaughter were killed by Lee, asked for clemency from President Donald Trump but the president has ignored his request.
Wesley Ira Purkey raped and murdered a 16-year-old girl , then dismembered, burned, and dumped her body in a septic tank. He was also convicted in state court of using a hammer to beat to death an 80-year-old woman who suffered from polio and walked with a cane. He was sentenced to death on November 5, 2003 by a jury in the United States Court for the Western District of Missouri.
Dustin Lee Honken shot dead five people: two men who were planning to testify against him, and a single working mother and her sixteen-year-old daughters. He was sentenced to death on October 14, 2004 by a jury in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa.
