Westley Sissel Unseld an American professional basketball player, coach and executive has passed away, according to statement from his Family. Wes Unseld was reported to have died in the early hours of today. Statement from Wes Family states that he died peacefully at his home. He died at the age of 74.
Wes Unseld spent his entire National Basketball Association (NBA) career with the Baltimore/Capital/Washington Bullets. Unseld played collegiately for the Louisville Cardinals and was drafted second overall by the Bullets in the 1968 NBA draft.
He was named the NBA Most Valuable Player during his rookie season and joined Wilt Chamberlain as the only two players in NBA history to accomplish the feat. Unseld won a championship with the Bullets in 1978. After his retirement from playing in 1981, he worked with the Bullets as a vice president, head coach and general manager.
Unseld was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1988 and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.

It is with profound sadness that we share that our adored husband, father and grandfather Wes Unself passed away peacefully this morning surrounded by famiy following lengthy health battles, most perfectly with Pneumonia. He was the rock of our family – An extremely devoted patriach and reveled in being with his wife, children, friends and teammates. He was our hero and loved playing and working around the game of basketball for the cities of Batltomore and Washintong DC, cities he proudly wore on his chest for so many years.
His legacy lives on in the family he treasured- his daughter Kim, son Wes, daughter in law, Evelyn, grandchildren Layland Wes and the Love of his life for 50 years, His wife Conne – And in the community through the unselds’ school, where the entire family contributed the enriching the lives of Baltimore’s youth
We world like to thank everyone who knew and loved his, personally and professionally, for their supporting during this loss. We will share information in the near future about how we will celebrate WES incredible life.
