- Evidence shows that litte Madeleine McCann was not the only victim ?: The disappearance of two other children increases suspicions about the sexual predator Christian Brueckner
- More than 13 years have passed since the disappearance of Madeleine McCann
More than 13 years have passed since the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, on the night of May 3, 2007, while her family spent their holidays at a resort located in the spa town of Praia da Luz, in the Algarve region of southern Portugal. Although various hypotheses have been followed without finding the person responsible so far, the authorities continue to investigate this case, which has shocked international public opinion. And in recent days, the police have identified a German citizen as the new prime suspect in Maddie’s disappearance.
Christian Brueckner , the alleged murderer of Madeleine, who was 3 years old when he disappeared in 2007 in the Portuguese Algarve, where he spent the summer with his family, is currently serving a sentence in a German prison. He has a numerous history of sexual crimes, including against minors.
The record of the targeted is lush. His first trial for a sex crime was in 1994, when he was 17 years old and he was convicted in Bavaria for abusing a child . He was arrested for a rape committed in Portugal in 2005. His victim was a 72-year-old American, whom he tied, beat, sexually assaulted, and eventually robbed. He was not arrested and prosecuted until ten years later, following DNA tests on hair that was found at the scene. The last case related to minors was a process for possession of child pornography in 2016.
Now, authorities are investigating the connections between the Maddie case and two other disappearances of German minors: Inga, a 5-year-old girl and René, a 6-year-old man.
The Stendal prosecutor’s office in eastern Germany is investigating whether Brueckner is related to the disappearance of a blonde 5-year-old German girl like Maddie.Inga Gehricke’s case has been a mystery since 2005. The little girl disappeared in a forest during a family barbecue in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, about 80 kilometers from Berlin. It has been confirmed that Brueckner was at that time on land 90 kilometers away from the place where she was last seen.
In February 2016, investigators already raided his house in search of links to the disappearance of Igna, they discovered a USB memory stick containing child pornography in the suspect’s house, but at that time they found no evidence that related to the disappearance of the girl from 5 years. Now, the little girl’s mother’s lawyer asked for a new investigation to be opened, according to Spiegel .
And in the last hours, To the riddles of Maddie and Inga, the case of another minor was added, a boy named René Hesse. In fact, the German police have contacted the family of the six-year-old boy who disappeared 24 years ago, in the Algarve, the same area where Maddie’s trail was lost.
The minor, from Elsdorf, Germany, was on vacation with his family in Aljezur – just 40 kilometers from Praia da Luz, when he disappeared on June 21, 1996.
Andreas Hasee, René’s father, revealed that an investigator with the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) contacted him today in the first time that he heard from the police in 20 years. As stated for the German newspaper Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, “the police believe that there could be a connection.” René was last seen running in front of his mother and stepfather during a walk on the beach.
According to detectives, the suspect has lived regularly in the Algarve since 1995. He had already been convicted of sexual crimes against children and was 19 years old when René disappeared.
“I already made up my mind that René died, that he drowned. He was very careful but now I start to think… I really can’t imagine that he is still alive, ”said his father, still shocked by the new investigations.
Thirteen years after Maddie’s disappearance, the identification of this new suspect sparks hope for the clarification of this mysterious case.
Madeleine McCann disappeared from her room on May 3, 2007, a few days after her fourth anniversary, in Praia da Luz, in southern Portugal, where she was spending a vacation with her family.
The identification of this new suspect is “hopeful,” Rogério Alves, the Portuguese lawyer for the McCann family, told AFP on Friday. “There are elements that seem hopeful” since the new track seems “more robust” than others explored in the past, Alves said. “There was distrust on the part of the parents regarding the information that emerged and that promised a resolution of the case. This time it is inevitable to think of a light of hope,” added the Portuguese lawyer.
The suspect lived and worked for several years, between 1995 and 2007, in the Portuguese region of Algarve, where the girl disappeared. “If the German police have released this information, it is certainly because it has other elements,” said the lawyer.
German police, who have asked for the collaboration of witnesses, speculate that the suspect broke into the McCanns’ apartment and that when they found the girl, they decided to kidnap her.
