Billerica dentist, Dr Brian Lyons has passed away. Brian Lyons was reported to have died yesterday in his sleep. The cause of his death is still yet unknown.
It was Bryan Lyons, who pushed Rick Hoyt in the Boston Marathon since 2015.
Brian Lyons death was confirmed by Ricky Hoyt’s father, Dick Hoyt in an official released via his Facebook page. Dick Hoyt said his son Ricky will be devastated when he hear the news of Lyon’s demise.
“Received some horrible news yesterday that Bryan Lyons passed away in his sleep – taken from his friends and family too soon. We have tons of pictures and memories of great times together over so many years. Rick is going to be devastated when he hears the news. Bryan gave so much support to Rick Hoyt and myself, Team Hoyt New England, and the Hoyt Foundation Boston Marathon charity team. My sympathy to his parents John & Patty Yamello Lyons , his sister Beth, and his brothers John Lyons and Mark Lyons – Rest in Peace Bryan.”
Due to health issues Rick Hoyt coudln’t paticipate in the 2019 but Lyons ran the race on his own and presented his finisher’s medal to his usual partner.
Lyons, a Billerica dentist, ran the marathon as a member of Team Hoyt beginning in 2009. In 2015, he took over for Dick Hoyt in pushing Rick, who lives with cerebral palsy and is a spastic quadriplegic, to the finish line. The Hoyts had participated in the race together since 1981.
Lyons, 50 year old Nashua, N.H., native and University of New Hampshire and Tufts Dental School graduate, was hand-picked to be the successor to one half of one of the greatest tandems in Boston sports history: Team Hoyt.
Dr Brian Lyons is survived by his parents John and Patty Lyons, and three siblings – Beth, John, and Mark.
