Folk Opera stage artist & fashion designer Mathias Clason dies at the age of 56

The folk opera today lost one of their own, a unique artist, Mathias Clason.
The news of his death was announced on the social media via by the Folfoperan who said they mourn his loss. He was a a Swedish designer, director and a librettist.
“The folk opera remembers the stage artist Mathias Clason who so sad left us. We remember a great personality that created imaginative, grand and always surprising suits for some performances that became something special at the Folkopera. He was there from the beginning of Hornsgatan with, among other things, Trollflute, Hoffmann’s Adventure and not least in Marie Antoinette.”
According to the source, The playwright Mathias Clason, who also worked as a costume designer, director and playwright, passed away after a long illness at the age 56.
Although there it has never been disclosed of what led to his death.

Born July 30, 1963 in Kungsholms parish , Stockholm Micheal Clason has designed costumes since 1983, scenography since 1991 for about 100 productions (opera, ballet, theater, musical) in and outside Sweden. Dramatic debut 2002. Directed from 2012.
His most distinguished opera works include Marie Antoinette ( Folk Opera ), Ringen ( Dalhalla ), Lucia di Lammermoor ( Savings , Malmö Opera ). Musical: The Brothers Lion Heart , Beauty and the Beast , Lola Blau (all for the Gothenburg Opera ). Among the theatrical theater a series of Shakespeare sets and most recently Tintomara (Gävle) and Vildanden (Borås) both in 2008 under the direction of Björn Melander
Clason has been awarded the Gold Mask for best costume twice, most recently for the costumes for Beauty and the Beast 2006 ( Göta Lejon ).
In 2006 he was curator of an exhibition on scenography (“Scene change”) in Kulturhuset, Stockholm, where Swedish 20th century scenography was depicted through a representative selection ( Isaac Grünewald , Lars-Åke Thessman , Bente Lykke Møller , Knut Ström and others). Clason is also active as an educator ( Dramatic Institute and others), and as a playwright – Jenny Lind (2002) An iceberg in the Mediterranean (2003) (Stockholm City Theater), Karlsson on the roof, libretto (Royal Opera / Malmö Opera 2003-13). Also translates from English and German as well as 2009 directing student to Peter Konwitschny at Salome, Nederlandse Opera. 2012 compilation, direction and visual form for the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra’s 100th anniversary concert. 2010-12 costumes, scenography and direction for Blåskäggs Borg / Trouble in Tahiti at the Stockholm Opera and the same summer 2012 for The Rape of Lucreia in Vattnäs Concert Lada.
Mathias Clason is the son of Synnöve and Anders Clason .
Clason is represented at, among others, the Scene Art Museum in Stockholm
