And many said the high number of deaths were because of the Christian festival, Mardi Gras in late February, A Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday, observed in many Christian countries through participating in confession and absolution, the ritual burning of the previous year’s Holy Week palms, finalizing one’s Lenten sacrifice, as well as consuming pancakes and other sweets. Louisiana is one of the states in US that observed this holy week.
