Two men of ages 24 and 27 are in police net and are expected to appear in court soon for the alleged murder and rape of a 74-year-old Pietermaritzburg woman.

In disguise to commit their deadly crime, they were said have posed like soldiers. They were arrested by the police at their respective homes.

According to the Police spokesperson Col Thembeka Mbele, while speaking to the media about how the two men murdered the age woman, he said, The men allegedly raped and murdered the woman at her home in Sweetwaters, where her body was later discovered.

Investigation about the woman’s death is currently going on and the people behind the death of the age woman will be made to face the justice of the nation.

On how they were arrested, Mbele explained, The 27-year-old suspect was arrested at his home in KwaShange in Pietermaritzburg while the 24-year-old was tracked to Durban’s Point area.

“Intensive police investigation have linked the suspects to the rape of a 20-year-old female, who was attacked on the same night.

“The suspects will also be charged for another rape. They will also be profiled to determine if they can be linked to other pending cases in the province,” said Mbele.

KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner Lt-Gen Khombinkosi Jula applauded the police for their thorough and swift arrest of the perpetrators. He further condemned the attack of an elderly woman, stating it has pushed the affected family and neighbours in sorrowful mode”.
